JANELLE DRIVE PLAYSPACE

Public BBQ

Janelle Drive Playspace sits quietly in Maiden Gully, and like many local gems, it's a study in potential versus reality. The basketball court draws older kids like moths to a flame, while the flying fox proves enduringly popular – there's something primal about launching yourself through the air that never gets old. The playground equipment itself is solid enough, clearly designed with school-age children in mind, though toddlers might find themselves spectators rather than participants. Here's where things get typically Australian: brilliant facilities undermined by basic oversights. Yes, there's a barbecue and bubble tap (thank goodness), but the absence of toilets turns a pleasant afternoon into a logistical challenge. It's the sort of planning quirk that makes you wonder if the committee meeting ran long and everyone just wanted to go home. Still, for older kids seeking adventure and parents happy to plan ahead, it delivers the goods.
